Network Participates in American-Arab
Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) Annual Ceremony
By: Duifaf Waely

On Friday February 11, 2011 the Iraqi Human Rights Network joined
the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) as it hosted
its 12th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Awards ceremony,
celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. King. The event drew a very
large crowd of about 500 guests at the Byblos Banquet Center located
in Dearborn, Michigan. Many well known personalities were present
including Michigan Senator Debbie Stabenow, U.S. Representative John
Dingell and Dearborn Heights’ Mayor Daniel Paletko along with
Dearborn’s Mayor Jack O'Reilly. The event brought light to the
importance of education and honored some students for their hard
work and success in school academics. At the same time, the talk
about human natural rights and freedom was also restated by many
throughout the program. U.S. Rep. John Dingell had this to say,
“Democracy is a great force and it will always prevail.” In addition
to that, the importance of providing opportunity for immigrants and
celebrating America’s great diversity was deeply stressed. The Iraqi
Human Rights Network was honored to be part of this great
celebration and to praise the great hard-working immigrates living
here in the United States of America.
