The Iraqi Human Rights Network and its founder, Said
Al-Waely, participated in a meeting of more than
fifty different organizations of civil society on
Wednesday April 6, 2011 in the meeting hall in the
Islamic Center of America in Dearborn to discuss
ways to bring down the plans of Pastor Terry Jones
after continued news of coming to Michigan and
demonstrating in front of the Center. Among those
who were present was the mayor of Dearborn City Mr.
Jack O'Reilly, and other Muslim and Christian
figures. Under the motto “we are here today to make
our voices heard and bring our views to drop the
malicious intents of Jones. We are also here to
bring our ideologies closer and unify ourselves to
provoke sectarianism and racism among religions.”
This was reached through extensive discussions and
divergent viewpoints. The following decisions were
made:
1 A community arranged conference in The Islamic
Center of America gathering will take place at four
o'clock p.m on April 21, 2011 to clarify the ways in
how to shoot down racial attempts by Terry Jones in
the case of implementing the planned visit.
2 The following day, April 22, another civil society
gathering will take place. Arab and Muslim
communities will pressure the media to stop racial
activity and discrimination against Arab and Muslim
communities in Dearborn.
It is noted that a copy of the holy Quran was
already burned in Pastor Jones’s church in Florida
after previous attempts of burning a whole carload
of holy Qurans in prior months. We call upon Arab
American communities for a commitment to the
peaceful and civilized protests and demonstrations
of Terry Jones’s plans and racial projects.
